A Refreshing Surprise

An Oasis to Refresh in the Desert

“When David came to Mahanaim, Shobi… Makir … and Barzillai … brought bedding and bowls and articles of pottery … flour and roasted grain, beans and lentils, honey and curds, sheep, and cheese from cows’ milk for David and his people to eat. For they said, “The people have become exhausted and hungry and thirsty in the wilderness”

2 Samuel 17:27-29

When you are weary and desperate, just as David was when he got to Mahanaim in his flight from his son, Absalom (2 Samuel 17:27-29), God can surprise you with provision beyond your imagination. When all hell breaks loose against you, when you are tired and need rest, trust God to do what He does best. He will provide what you need in the most unlikely places and from unexpected sources.

God surprised David with provision at Mahanaim beyond measure when he needed it most.

“When David came to Mahanaim, Barzillai [and company] brought bedding and bowls and articles of pottery, flour and roasted grain, beans and lentils, honey and curds, sheep, and cheese from cows’ milk for David and his people to eat. For they said, “The people have become exhausted and hungry and thirsty in the wilderness” (2 Samuel 17:27-29).

Who can outshine the Almighty God – our Provider?

You, too, may have challenges that have driven you away from your comfort zone to some arid places. You have trekked for miles, literally, and are tired. There is more to come, however, before you can take a breather. Your situation could be your health with mounting bills, academic pursuits that have dried your coffers, family issues that get worse by the day. Yours could be work-related problems that seem unending. David’s experience with his beloved son, Absalom, at his heel and fleeing Jerusalem, can give you a refreshing perspective and help you regroup.

So, trust the Lord and rest in Him in your current situation. His sovereign hand is working behind the scenes to refresh you at your lowest point of need. Even if it takes birds to feed you, God will do it. Remember how He did it for the prophet Elijah (1 Kings 19:3-8)?

Expect to see the beauty of God’s provision, therefore, and marvel at His grace.
