The Irony and Folly of Man

John 19:13

New King James Version

When Pilate, therefore, heard that saying, he brought Jesus out and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

For Meditation

How could any human being sit in judgment of God? How could the created judge his Creator?

That’s the irony of Pilate sitting in judgment of Jesus as the accused—the folly of man at the highest degree.

But that’s what we do when we sit in judgment of God’s word. We determine what is truth in the Bible and what is not, what is relevant and what is not, and what we must obey or disregard.

However, “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correction and training in righteousness” (2 Tim. 3:16).

So, may we recognize the folly of sitting in judgment of God’s word and trust in His whole counsel, allowing it to moderate our lives for our own sake.

Amen!
