Up in heaven, the Council sat.
The time had come, the Begotten to leave –
The beauty and majesty of His heaven
Why leave all that for the chaos of the earth?
The Father’s smile, revealing the answer—Love!
The angels wondered how it could be.
That the Majesty of heaven would forsake it all
The mystery of the incarnation they knew not—ever.
The wonder of the Father, they had no understanding
And so He left His glory, the Light of God, to illumine the earth
Down on earth, a virgin the angel visits,
Of the priestly line of David, she came
Her heart pounded with the announcement he bore:
“Do not be afraid,” for “you have found favor with God”
“You will be with child and give birth to a Son”
The wonder of wonders!
How can it be when a woman has known no man?
And so the mystery of the virgin birth—finally revealed:
The power of the Holy Spirit overshadowing the virgin,
That the Begotten Son of God—a human fetus
The Holy One of God to be born
Out, she hurried to the home of an old couple.
The joy of whom was flowing like a river
Never on earth, been such communication
When the forerunner in the womb of old Elizabeth,
Met the Messiah in Mary’s womb,
In the wombs of the two women,
They exchanged greetings.
The fullness of time came, the Messiah to be born
A human decree to place the birth where it should be.
A blessed town that knew not the time.
And so, they came, Mary and Joseph, to Bethlehem
But the blessed town, no room for them.
In a barn, they settle,
When all were busy with their business,
Heaven’s glory took His first breath—the air He created
Among bleating sheep, He was born
The Lamb of God, in a cradle, received by earthly lambs,
Blessed are you who receive Him
The King of Glory to save and delight the heart
Glory to God in the highest
Peace on earth to all
On whom His favor rests.
