My Deepest Desire

Luke 18:38

New King James Version

And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

For Meditation

Is it true—what you hunger after reflects your life?

Does one’s greatest desire

drive their passion?

That one thing!

If I can have it…

Focused on it,

everything, hanging on it.

Nothing distracting—all else waiting,

This one thing!

All I desire—all I hunger for.

I, blind Bartimaeus.

One hunger to satisfy—to see!

Darkness, my prison all my life.

When, O light, will I see!

Around He comes—

Jesus of Nazareth—Light of the world!

Possessor of power and authority

to give light to illumine my poor soul.

This crowd will not stop me.

Mercy—too kind to let go.

Grace, too precious to forsake!

“Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!”

Shouts from the crowd –

“Be quiet!”

“Son of David, have mercy on me!”

He stops, He calls, He asks.

For that burning desire,

in my poor soul.

His voice—so soothing, so comforting.

“What do you want me to do for you?”

No one ever asked about my hunger,

None cared so much.

“Rabbi, I want to see.”

All I need—all I care for,

to see your face,

then all others.

“Go,” … “Your faith has healed you.”

“I can see!”

When the Light shines!

What a beauty!

Delivered from the dark dungeon!

There—no more my home and life.

Jesus—all to you, I owe.

But there they come,

options, crowding around me,

seeking my friendship.

World—what did you do for me?

Flesh—where did you lead me

but to death?

Satan, you enemy of my soul—

I am done with you!

There He stands.

Taller and more majestic than all.

Jesus—it’s you I choose—my love for life!

My light Giver!

What else will I lack?

So, here I come Jesus!

No-more-blind-Bartimaeus,

to follow you in the way

along life’s path.

None a leader and guide, as the author of life.

The Giver of faith

to receive life.

Here, I present to you,

Jesus, Son of God!

Do you have Him?
