He Knows Your Fears

Alone in the Storm?

He Knows Your Fears

Luke 8:50

New International Version (NIV)

Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”

For Meditation

Every dead situation in your life could become a unique opportunity to experience the glory of God extraordinarily as you walk with faith with Jesus. For, when Jesus responds to your call for healing, death cannot stand in His way if you believe, as the story of Jairus exemplifies (Lk. 8:40-56).

His dying daughter needed immediate attention, and the Lord graciously accepted to make a house call for that purpose. The synagogue leader believed in the authority of Jesus over sickness, but not beyond that. So when the woman with the twelve-year hemorrhage condition interrupted their walk to the home of Jairus, Jesus knew he was fearful and irritated.

Don’t we all go through similar moments of trepidation in our lives—times when we think the Lord has delayed and fear of the ultimate grips the heart? And the ultimate happened after all.

News from the home of Jairus came at last—his daughter was dead, so why worry the Master? Like Job (Job 3:24), what the synagogue ruler feared most had happened, and that was enough to break the ardent faithful (49). Can you imagine the thoughts that swept through his mind: “If only you had concentrated on my daughter, Master, she would not have died. That woman too; why did she choose this time to seek the help of Jesus?”

You may be among the millions who have felt this way before, times when your fears have turned into your worst nightmares. What thoughts besieged your mind about God and the people you thought caused your predicament?

Times like that are when the Majesty of the Lord shines through to warm the heart of the faithful. He did not allow such ‘destroyers of faith’ to invade Jairus’ mind. His calm assurance to  Jairus was soothing to the soul.

“Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed” (Lk. 8:50).

These words have warmed the hearts of saints worldwide over the centuries. They are words He still speaks to His beloved, who trusts Him through their fears. Can you hear Him whisper the same assurance to you as you struggle with the uncertainties or terrible news you have received or are expecting?

Jesus knows your anxious thoughts, my friend. He wants you to trust Him for your peace. For, when He finally touches your situation, He will restore life to it even if death has laid its icy hands on it and everybody is lamenting for you (51-56).
