Today’s Reading:
Monday, 11 April: Psalm 22; Hebrews 10:1-18
In the Hebrews scripture, we see how, because of the limitations of the old covenant with its animal sacrifices that could not take away our sins, there remained a need for Christ and His atoning sacrifice to provide salvation for us (Heb. 10:1-4).
“It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins” (4).
The good news is that God prepared a body for Christ (10:5; 2:14) to come into the world to offer a better sacrifice to take away our sins (10:5-7). Christ offered the ultimate sacrifice for our sins and sat down at the right hand of God in majesty. He has become a propitiation for our sins, which has freed us to worship God acceptably—in spirit and truth (Heb.12:28; Jn. 4:24). His sacrifice is efficacious and final. By it, Christ has made all of us who have trusted Him perfect forever (Heb. 10:14) — right standing with God.
How do we know this for sure?
The Holy Spirit testifies to it (15-18).
Isn’t that great news?
So, let us rejoice and celebrate Christ and His sacrifice for us and determine to honor God with our obedience to His Word.
Prayer Focus:
Pray that the people of the world will:
- Know their sinfulness and need for salvation (Rom. 3:23).
- Know the futility of any sacrifice or effort to deal with their sins (Heb. 10:4).
- Acknowledge their need for Christ, God’s sacrifice for the propitiation of our sins (1 Jn. 2:2; Jn. 1:29).
- Seek Christ, the only way to the Father (Jn. 14:6; Acts 4:12) in this holy week, and find salvation for their souls (Acts 3:19; Psalm 62:1).
- Pray for the Lord to reveal Himself to the Muslim community in their season of fasting, that they may come to Him for salvation.
- Now, celebrate your perfect standing before God in Christ (Heb. 10:14; Col. 2:10).
