Today’s Reading:
Wednesday, 13 April: John 15 – John 16; Luke 23.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).
A friend of God; how amazing! And that is who you are because, like His disciples He spoke to (John 15:13), you have trusted Jesus Christ, His Eternal Son, with your life. Isn’t that great news to brighten your day?
We forge friendships out of love. One person starts it, and then it becomes mutual. The two people build trust along the way and share everything, including intimate secrets. That is why you don’t just call anybody your friend. If then, Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords, calls you His friend, what a blessing it is!
As His friend, Jesus says He has made everything He received from His Father known to you (15). Just as He couldn’t keep the wrath He intended to unleash on Sodom and Gomorrah from His friend Abraham (Gen. 18:17), so has He not, and will not keep anything you need to know from you. The Holy Spirit ensures this blessed privilege (14:26). You only have to make sure you are His friend by your obedience (John 15:14). His command is to love each other as He has loved you (12).
Rejoice, therefore, that because of Calvary, you have become a friend of Jesus Christ and that He loves you. Share this love today with someone who needs to know what true love is (John 3:16; Rm. 5:8).
