The Only Constant In Life

Malachi 3:6

New International Version

“I the Lord do not change. So, you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.

For Meditation

What a glorious word! How heartwarming!

I woke up this morning to a new world. The day has changed, and the time keeps changing. The condition of my mind, health, situation, circumstances, needs, and challenges—have all assumed extra dimensions and postures in this fast-changing world. I hesitate to turn on the Television or listen to the radio for fear of what will greet me. There are conflicts everywhere, wars, natural disasters, changing climate, terrifying economic news, financial turmoil, government meltdowns, strikes, protests, and many more. Even the newscasters may not be the same today as yesterday. So, if you ask me what is new, I will say everything.

I do not know if you have noticed, but the pace of the change is reaching supersonic levels that can make the head spin. No wonder many are dizzy and confused. Ask any doctor, and they will confirm that high blood pressure, with its attendant critical ailments, is one of, if not the most prevailing threat to our lives these days. Hypertension is killing the young as fast as the aged.

Poh Fan Chia writes:

I used to dread Mondays. Sometimes, when I got off the train to head to a previous job, I’d sit at the station for a while, trying to delay reaching the building, if only for a few minutes. My heart would beat fast as I worried about meeting the deadlines and managing the moods of a temperamental boss. [Our Daily Bread, Monday, November 6, 2022.]

Her experience characterizes the stress people live under, not only on Mondays, but every day of the week, month, and year. Since everything around us keeps changing, the best we can do is to predict and hope that our statistical evaluations and expectations hold. But before you rush to join ranks with the discouraged, listen to the voice of God.

I, the Lord, do not change (Malachi 3:6).

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob declares to His people that He is the Lord who does not change, and because He is unchanging, there is hope for His people who repent and return to Him. He has firmly rooted His promises in His immutability. His love, mercy, grace, power, and forgiveness remain the same as yesterday.

There is hope for you, the faithful in Christ. You can have a sense of stability in your life because of Christ. He is the only Constant in the entire universe.

Look to Him today and receive encouragement and strength as things keep changing throughout your day.

Shalom
