“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” – Romans 8:37
What is your attitude as you go through this Thanksgiving Month? What scripture has blessed and seen you through this year, which you can raise before God today and ascribe to Him glory and honor?
After a lofty declaration of the great salvation God has worked for us through Christ Jesus, Paul rises to a crescendo of faith declarations in Romans chapter eight to bolster our courage in our walk with Christ without fear.
He declared that in Christ; we stand without condemnation (8:1-2); that we have received power over our sinful nature and desires (3-4), and that we have received a mindset after the righteousness of God (5-8). The Holy Spirit indwells us (9-10). As a result, we have the power to live to please God and not the flesh (12:14).
That gives us the confidence in Christ to approach His throne room of grace and affectionately call Him as Abba, Father, according to the inner witness of His Spirit that we are His children (15-16). We are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ Jesus (17), and in Him, we hope to behold the eternal glory in heaven that surpasses the troubles of this world (18). The Holy Spirit helps us to pray through our weak moments (26-27), and, O, glory!
Paul says that God works all things together for our good and His purpose (28) as He brings us into the image of Christ (29-30). In this transformation project of the Holy Spirit, nothing can stand against us because of our position in Christ (31). All we can expect from God is good for us (32), though we will suffer for the sake of His name and our edification. But none of these things can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus (35-36). Then Paul makes this climatic declaration:
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”—Romans 8:37-39 (NIV).
These declarations should make you thankful and rejoice in Christ for His goodness in your salvation and keeping. By faith, rise in His strength to a victorious living, and bring onto Him a continual sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name (Hebrews 13:15).
May you have victory in every area of your life for the rest of the year and into 2023; and may the joy of the Lord strengthen you when you are weak and failing.
