Psalm 60:11
New Living Translation (NLT)
Oh, please help us against our enemies,
for all human help is useless.
Your Encouragement
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of need (Psalm 46:1). This is David’s confession. He is a man who knew trouble throughout his life, and he stands to testify about the only place he found refuge—the only one in whom he found help—the ever-present God who is mighty and strong. God never disappointed David, so he can strongly recommend Him to you who need help today.
Until you apprehend the truth that God is your only Helper, people will disappoint and frustrate you countless times. You will hate people, lose the joy of fellowship, and distance yourself from those who love you. You will find refuge in no one apart from Him.
Your problem is not the person who disappointed you. It is your focus that has been wrong. You have misplaced your expectations and wrongly anchored your faith.
David expressed this point well in Psalm 60 when enemy forces overwhelmed him. All human effort and help proved useless. He confessed it and appealed for help from the only Helper of Israel, the One in whose name Jacob blessed Joseph, saying, “because of your father’s God, who helps you (Gen. 49:25)[Emphasis mine]. He is your only Helper, my friend. Never forget that.
Christmas has come and gone, but cases of oppression and disappointment linger. They want to take your joy away, the joy of Christmas. Don’t capitulate to it, especially with a new year on the horizon. The attitude of David will help you (Psalm 60).
Step back and evaluate yourself before God (1-2). How is your relationship with Him? Confess the effect of your disobedience and appeal for help (3-5). Remind yourself of God’s promises and speak back to Him (6-8). Remind God of His mercy and faithfulness (9-10). Now, cry on Him for help as you decry every human effort (11). Finally, affirm His power in deliverance, and declare victory over your adversaries (12).
May you experience an astounding victory over your circumstances for the glory of God in Christ Jesus. Amen!
Shalom and good evening, child of God!
