Do You Not Get It?

Mark 2:7

New King James Version

“Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

For Meditation

Hello, teachers of the law! That’s the point. Jesus is God!

You are right when you say no one can forgive sins but God. However, He Jesus did. Can’t you get it?

His command is not blasphemy. It is the very word of God. It pierces the heart like a double-edged sword, penetrating and dividing the soul and spirit, the joint and marrow. His word reveals the purposes and intentions of the heart, as it has just revealed yours. Do not miss the point here, too. How could He know what you are thinking in your hearts if He is not all-knowing, another attribute of God?

Can you not see that nobody has left the room? The man speaks with authority, and His word has glued everybody to their seats. Or is it the floor?

When Jesus speaks, it silences the gusty winds on the sea to a deafening silence. “What manner of man is this that the sea and winds obey?” His disciples asked (Mark 4:41).

Everybody listens to Jesus when He speaks, whether to obey or disobey. Demons tremble at His voice (5:6-10). Sin loses its grip on His chosen people (Romans 6:17-18). Death takes cover because it knows the only One who has conquered it (1 Corinthians 15:54-55). The grave opens and bows for the Son of God to walk out in victory (Mark 16:4-6), and gravity cannot restrain Him when He ascends to heaven before His beloved (Acts 1:9).

He is God incarnate, the second person of the eternal Godhead (Matthew 28:19), the sovereign ruler over all things seen and unseen because He created them all (Colossians 1:15-17).

I AM THAT I AM—that is who He is! (Exodus 3:14; John 8:58)

So, yes! Jesus is God and has authority on earth to forgive sins, just as He has forgiven this poor paralytic. He turns to the paralyzed man and commands him to arise, take up his bed, and go to his house, and the man walks away, healed (Mark 2:11-12).

Amazing!

You who have believed, worship Him. Give Him praise, who has saved you.

Ignorant people, as well as the wicked, deny His deity and humanity to their peril. You who have not believed do not have to follow them to their damnation. Why don’t you respond to His call today and receive eternal life for your soul? (John 3:16; Romans 10:9-10).
