Your Sinking Boat Or Christ

The Sinking Boats Or Jesus

Luke 5:6-7

New International Version

When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

For Meditation

They knew the sea and were skilled at what they did—fishing. An entire night at sea without a catch and disappointment, they stood mending their nets. Why should they listen to this Carpenter from Nazareth? (Lk. 5:4). What did He know about fishing? Fish do not gather close to the shore, and it was daylight too. The chance of catching any fish was very minimal. Maybe a few little ones.

However, Peter did.

“Master, we’ve worked hard all night and have not caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets,” (5).

The catch was incredible. Two boats, filled with the miraculous catch, began sinking under its weight (6-7). The wonder of wonders! The glory of the Lord revealed on the shore of Lake Gennesaret!

How could any human with a soul ignore such majesty?

Sin revealed, conscience struck—convicted to the core. What else could Simon Peter do but prostrate in worship and surrender?

“Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man” (8).

He left everything and followed Jesus. He abandoned his former life as a new way of living opened to him. The Master called, and Peter responded with a big YES!

Is your boat sinking right before your eyes at the call of God on your life through Jesus? From what is He calling you? What matters to you now—your boat filled with a great haul of fish that is sinking anyway, or life everlasting with Him?

Why can’t you leave it all and come follow Him into His kingdom? Be like Peter who had some doubts, but yielded because the Lord had said it, and see His glory revealed in amazing ways.

He waits for you daily, but not for too long, my friend. It is a move you will never regret, though you will lose everything and yourself in Christ.
