Mark 7:37
New International Version
People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
For Meditation
He has done all things well indeed. But who grades who—the Teacher or the student?
It is well that the people said Jesus was different and had met their standard of goodness (Mark 7:37), but the essential thing is what they did with that knowledge.
Jesus is the quintessential Teacher—Professor extraordinaire without an equal. He always taught above and beyond the standard of the teachers of this world, and there are no gaps for anyone to fill. Not only that.
His teachings, miracles, sayings, healings, and invitations have an innate power to transform lives and renew minds that have calcified from centuries of wrong teachings and traditions of men. He directs them to the heart that sin has ensnared and led to death. His goal is the salvation of the hearer and observer.
So, what did these people who graded Jesus and gave Him an A+++ do with what He revealed to them?
What have you, who hear Him now, done with the evidence you have of Him?
The hallelujahs always end. The shouts of “preach on, Pastor” reach their highest peak on Mt. Sunday Services. Jesus hears your acknowledgment of, “Wow, what a sermon!” And He appreciates your focus. Now, it is His turn to ask about what you have done with what you hear and read on Sundays and every other day. What will He say if He should evaluate you now? Will He say you have done all things well?
May the Lord give us the grace to answer these questions with humility. Amen.
