The Death of the Faithful

Psalm 116:15

New International Version

Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his faithful servants.

For Meditation

The Oldman sat in his sick bed with sensors attached all over his body, monitoring his vital signs. He cleared his throat and began addressing his four children surrounding him. His speech was candid, with great optimism in his eyes. He had lived a good and very blessed life in Christ, but now he was dying.

Death is something nobody wants to talk about, but it is the reality of life. It was the lesson the Oldman wanted his children to know and live prepared for it. He, therefore, encouraged them to remember their Creator while they were young before it was too late to live for Him—the time when God called back the life He gave them and there was no opportunity for change (Ecclesiastes 12:1-7 paraphrased).

Did he have any regrets? No! God had been good to him, and he would not change his life for any other; so he did not intend to fight the sickness he was battling. He was optimistic about going to be with the Lord; he insisted with a pleasant and confident smile.

He reminded his children about his terrible life before Christ and his transformed life after his conversion. The example of his life with Christ is what he was leaving with them. He wanted to see them in heaven with their children and grandchildren he would never see here on earth.

With that, the old soldier of the Lord drew his legs in and breathed his last. A smile adorned his face and revealed the peace he had at last in the bosom of Christ (2 Cor. 5:8-9).

What a way to go, but that is the joy of the child of God who enjoys their earthly life in Christ Jesus—they pass on with contentment and a smile. The Psalmist was right.

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants (Psalm 116:15).
