No Bravado, Please!
Mark 14:29
New International Version
Peter declared, “Even if all fall away, I will not.”
For Meditation
Peter knew Jesus loved Him. He had seen and experienced much and knew the favor he enjoyed from the Lord. However, he never stopped to think about the enormity of the responsibilities that come with it.
How many of us know until we sit in the seat, and everything comes crashing on us?
Peter did not know about the war raging in the spirit realm to oppose and destroy him, but His Master did and had prayed for him (Luke 22:31-32). So, when Jesus sat with the disciples and told them about the opposition that faced them, Peter showed some bravado. All his colleagues may abandon Jesus, but he will not (Mark 14:29).
I am sure the Lord loved his conviction and smiled at those words. Lovingly, Jesus told Peter:
“Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times.”
Did Peter hear the Master? Did he have any idea how weak he was against those forces of evil lined up against him? How much of the cosmic battle did Peter know about?
Oh, how blessed we are to have a Master who knows everything and has power over them all! How refreshing to comprehend the extent of His love and care for us. Glory to Him, who has prayed to sustain us through all the battles we must go through on this road to heaven with Him.
No show of bravado, my friend.
Praise the Lord who has called you and can keep you from falling and present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy. Prostrate before the only God our Savior, who alone deserves all glory, majesty, power, and authority through all ages, now and forever! Amen.
