Deceptive Numbers

1 Kings 18:25

New King James Version

Now Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose one bull for yourselves and prepare it first, for you are many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under it.”

For Meditation

Numbers do not count to God. What matters is a heart devoted to Him (2 Chronicles 16:9).

Baal had 450 prophets on Mt. Carmel, but God Almighty had one dedicated prophet. In the end, however, God prevailed (1 Kings 18:38), while Baal proved to be a dead god, incapable of responding to the cries of his prophets to send fire to consume their sacrifice to it (26).

But God! He is alive! He showed up, and the people fell on their faces proclaiming His majesty and power.

“Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, “The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!”(30)

The ears of the Lord are attentive to the prayers of His dedicated servants who stand against idolatry and moral decadence in their time. And boy, do we not have enough of these sins now to keep the church awake and on its knees before the throne of grace 24/7?

So, are you an Elijah?

Shalom
