The Record of Hope

Esther 2:23

New Living Translation

When an investigation was made and Mordecai’s story was found to be true, the two men were impaled on a sharpened pole. This was all recorded in The Book of the History of King Xerxes’ Reign.

For Encouragement

He sat at the palace gate and guided his cousin to prominence in the royal hierarchy. Esther, the adopted cousin of Mordecai, did well by her beauty and poise, with a mighty dose of grace to become the Queen by the side of King Xerxes.

Mordecai hears about an assassination plot on the king by two of his men (Esther 2:21-23). His report proves credible after investigations, so the two would-be assassins get executed.

The man saved the king, and what did he receive for his report? Just a record in the book that chronicled the events of the reign of King Xerxes (Esther 2:23 NLT). That was all – No handshake or ceremony of honor for Mordecai.

I know you would be disappointed, if not angry. Many have said things and made vows from the sewers of bitterness to their destruction. Mordecai didn’t. He settled back at the palace gate, and life went on. What a priceless attitude for the believer!

Paul has something to say about this godly attitude.

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15: 58).

The Most High God has every tool unimaginable in His providence to honor His word. If it required making the king of Persia sleepless to get his attention on behalf of Mordecai (Esther 6:1-11), God would do the same for you.

You may have been overlooked for a position or disregarded for doing good, and you are steaming. Take heart. God, who rewards faithfulness, is on His throne. He comes through in unexpected ways when you’ve forgotten everything.
