Exclusivity of Christ.

Acts 4:12

New International Version

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

For Meditation

Many have claimed that heaven has several ways, and that God has other prophets or religious leaders to guide people to Himself in heaven for eternity. That proposition lacks any truth and only deceives. God has made Himself very clear in His word that Jesus Christ is the only person through whom anybody could come to Him.

Jesus made this astonishing statement in the Upper Room just before He entered His passion (Jn. 14:6). The news of His impending death troubled the hearts of His disciples, so He comforted and encouraged their faith in Him and the Father, who has many rooms in His house. Jesus said He was going to prepare a place for them and followed this with an assurance:

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going (Jn. 14:1-4).

Thomas declared their ignorance (5), which drew the audacious claim any religious leader has ever made and will ever make.

I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (6).

I have underlined the modifiers of the nouns for emphasis to highlight the exclusivity of Jesus in redemption history. It closes the door to any other propounded way to God, makes every other claim a falsehood, and debunks any claim to any source of life apart from Jesus. Then, to Philip’s interjection, Jesus said,

If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you know him and have seen him.

Yesterday, we talked through the Parable of the Tenants and identified the son the owner of the vineyard sent (Mk. 12:6) as Jesus (Matt. 3:17; 17:5). The vinedressers had beaten and killed off all the servants (prophets) the owner (God) sent until only one remained—his beloved son (Jesus), whom he sent (Mk. 12:6 NLT).

God reserved no one else after Jesus to bring salvation to the sinner, His only beloved Son (Jn. 3:16; Rm. 5:8; 1 Jn. 4:9-10) to die as our substitute to redeem us from sin and death (Heb. 2:14-15; Col. 1:13-14). Through Jesus, therefore, God is reconciling the world to Himself (2 Cor. 5:18-19).

The writer of Hebrews eloquently argues through his Epistle the exclusivity of Jesus in every sphere of life in heaven and on earth. God has spoken in these last days only through Jesus (Heb, 1:1-4) —which last days began from Jesus’s time on earth till His return. No one speaks for God during these last days apart from Jesus, and the Bible is the only authentic source of His word.

There is much more to say in this matter, but we will end with this scripture for now.

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

I pray the Spirit of God will incline your heart to hear the voice of God calling you to Himself through His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, the only Savior and Lord (Jn. 1:12-13; Rm. 10:9-10, 13).
