Numbers 22:4
New International Version
The Moabites said to the elders of Midian, “This horde is going to lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.
For Meditation
You know the story of the eagle that grew up among chickens and lived like them, not knowing its tremendous power and strength. The chicken knew it and dreaded his terror one day, so they used intimidation to keep it tame. How sad the eagle’s story has become that of most Christians today. Just check into the services of most churches today and notice the fear and oppression that rule over the congregation.
Our pulpits spew out alarming messages, not of the Lord’s coming that demands preparedness and righteous living, but of witches and demons chasing you. Present-day preachers and teachers have oppressed congregants with messages about curses and ancestral covenants that control the believer’s life. The average worshipper sits on eggshells and jumps at the gentle whisper of the wind blowing through nearby trees. Instead of walking with confidence in the cross’s power and of Christ’s resurrection through the Holy Spirit, believers have allowed the fear of demons to terrorize them. The enemy is pushing most Christians around in constant fear. They have no peace!
This series recognizes and affirms the fierce spiritual battle Christ has thrust believers into. However, it will make the case against living in terror because of the struggle. It will argue against the prevailing messaging that forces believers to live in our pre-salvation life again—when the devil used the power of death to enslave us with its fear (Hebrews 2:14-15). My goal is to encourage us to see ourselves in Christ daily and live in His mighty power, clad in the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). That is how the believer stands against the devil’s schemes to prevail. We must recognize Christ’s victory over those forces of darkness, acknowledging that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against satanic powers. We must remember how He made a public spectacle of them in triumph by the cross (Colossians 2:14-15). This truth must make us fearless in Him.
We are more than conquerors in Christ, and we must live in that victorious power. We should not live in weakness because of the fear of dark forces. The devil knows this, and the world fears the righteous and faithful believer. So, why do we fear when terror and dread have fallen on them because of our courageous stand in Christ? We must confront every problematic situation and boldly declare our victory in Christ.
In subsequent messages, we will glean from Israel’s arrival in the Plains of Moab and Balak’s reaction as the backdrop to our discussion. In the meantime, remember that even when all the forces of hell break loose against you, Christ is not just your defense. He is your victory. Let this truth fill you with a sense of security and protection in Christ, assuring you of your safety. Amen!
