Abandoned! Really?

Psalm 71:10-11

New International Version (NIV)

For my enemies speak against me; those who wait to kill me conspire together. They say, “God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him.”

For Meditation

It’s a joke for your enemies to think you are helpless and vulnerable with no one to rescue you from their snares. God has so protected you in His hands your enemies do not know how secure you are in His hands (Job 1:9-11; Psalm 91:1-14; Rm. 8:31-39). They do not know God’s faithfulness (2 Tim. 2:13), His watchful eyes upon the righteous (Psalm 34:15; 1 Pt. 3:12), and His promise to never leave you nor forsake you (Heb. 13:5-6).

Perhaps your detractors need a thorough understanding of the Bible to comprehend what God has done in the past to protect His saints and continues to do now. Have they considered Psalm 23? It’s crucial to remind them why David could confidently declare his fearless walk through the darkest valley (Psalm 23:4). David had an unwavering trust and absolute confidence in God as His Shepherd—his Good Shepherd, as Jesus called Himself (John 10:11, 14-18). This Good Shepherd has never abandoned His flock—not in any critical situation. Never!

God did not abandon Noah (Gen. 6-8). He didn’t abandon Joseph in prison (41:14, 41) and certainly did not give up on Israel in Egypt (Ex. 3:7-10), at the Red Sea (14:15-30), and under Joshua through the Canaan Conquest. He did not leave the three Hebrew boys to roast in Nebuchadnezzar’s fiery furnace (Dan. 3:19-27) or Daniel in the Lion’s den (6:16-23). Did the Father abandon His Son in the grave (Matthew 28:5-6)? Even in death, God does not surrender His own to their enemies, who are His enemies first.

So, what makes any enemy of yours think God will desert you in this fierce battle between good and evil (Ephesians 6:10-18)? And why are you scared by their words? Why have you believed their lie that God has forsaken you and that they will pursue and seize you with no one to rescue you (Psalm 71:11)?

I pray you will be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power by putting on the whole armor of God and courageously standing your ground in the face of every opposition for the glory of God in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 6:10-18). Only, never fight as the world does.

For though we are in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

May the Lord strengthen you where you are most vulnerable, and may He cause your enemies who pursue you from one direction to flee from you in seven (Deuteronomy 28:7). His divine strength is your shield, providing you with the ultimate protection and security. Amen!

Shalom
