Psalm 32:5
New International Version (NIV)
Then I acknowledged my sin to you
and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess
my transgressions to the Lord.”
And you forgave
the guilt of my sin.
For meditation
David was human, like us. He stepped out of line and muddied himself terribly (2 Sam. 11). First, he took another person’s wife. When the woman got pregnant, the king of Israel attempted to cover it up by trying to get the woman’s husband to take responsibility for it deceptively (6-13). When Uriah would not take the bait, David signed this brave soldier’s death sentence and sent it by his own hand to General Joab, who executed it to the letter on the battlefront. With Uriah out of the way, David took Bathsheba for his wife (14:27).
He thought he had outsmarted everybody until the prophet Nathan confronted him with a parable that put the noose around his neck (12:1-6).
“You are the man!” Nathan said.
“I have sinned against the LORD.”
“The Lord has taken away your sin.”
Simple!
David did not give any excuses. Neither did he rationalize his actions. Instead, Israel’s king confessed his sins. He made a hundred-eighty-degree turn back to God, and the sanctifying power of God finished its work with him. Though David suffered the consequences of his sins, he never looked back. That’s genuine repentance, folks! Is it any wonder God called him a man after His heart? (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:22).
This outright confession is so difficult for many of us today. We find it difficult to confess our sins and receive forgiveness. We carry the guilt around, concealed by our clever theatrics. Meanwhile, we’re burdened and suffering under our sin’s weight. David testifies to this misery in Psalm 32:3-4.
When I kept silent,
my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
Unconfessed sin is dangerous, my friend. So, confess it, let go, and free yourself from its oppression. It is not worth it.
Many people are wasting their resources on medical bills for nothing. Doctors have found nothing wrong with you from the myriad laboratory tests. Why don’t you try Doctor Jesus, take His prescription, and receive your healing today? For when the hand of the Lord is heavy on you because of some unconfessed sin, it is a terrible experience. Your strength leaves you, and depression could set in. The common saying is so true. “Confession is healing for the soul,”
The promise of 1 Jn. 1:9 still holds for every child of God because the blood never dries at Calvary. That’s good news indeed!
I pray you will walk away from your hidden sins, having confessed and received forgiveness and cleansing from Jesus, our merciful Savior and Lord. Give glory to God, my friend, and let joy back into your life through Christ Jesus. Amen!
A heart that seeks after holiness commends a person to God’s heart.
Pray With Me
Lord, we don’t want to hide our sins anymore. Please help us confess them and receive your forgiveness and freedom. Amen.
