Blessed by Work

Colossians 3:23

New International Version

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

For Meditation

Charles Kingsley was right when he said, “Thank God every morning when you get up that you have something to do which must be done, whether or not you like it. Being forced to work and forced to do your best will breed in you temperance, self-control, diligence, strength of will, content, and a hundred other virtues which the idle never know.”

Do you want to know what that is? GRACE! The unmerited favor of God. To wake up this morning with gainful work and an office to walk into is a blessing from the Almighty God, my friend. Millions have nothing to call their work and find it killing. But you have one, so rejoice in Christ, your provider.

Joseph could have resented being a slave in Potiphar’s house. Instead, he saw it as an opportunity to honor the Lord. He worked with all his heart and found joy in his tasks. God rewarded his dedication and faithfulness with favor, and the rest is history.

Can you do the same today and make it a habit? Paul wrote in Colossians 3:23,

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

Remember, your boss is not your ultimate employer. It is God who signs your check, who provides for your needs. You can find security and peace in this truth and share the blessings with somebody who is struggling.

Is your boss a demanding person? Look past him and fix your gaze on Jesus. Draw strength from Him to do your work joyfully and in a manner pleasing to Him. With His strength, you can overcome any challenge.

May the Lord bless and strengthen you to enjoy your work today. Give thanks to Him. May He touch you and give you His peace in Christ, amen!

Pray With Me

Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for the employment and opportunity you have provided to me to glorify you. Please help me do it joyfully and diligently. Amen.

Shalom
