A Winning Disposition for 2025

Psalm 37:11

New King James Version

But the meek shall inherit the earth,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

For meditation

The promises of the Lord are sweet to the discerning and trusting. A living and faithful God utters every life-giving word. The Apostle Paul says they are “Yes” in Christ, and through Him, we say “Amen!” (2 Corinthians 1:20). Though there are some specific promises to specific people we cannot claim, there are many we can claim within the confines of his general will for His children. Jeremiah 29:11-13 is a classic example. Though written to the exiles in Babylon, we can look to our good God and claim the heart of it for ourselves, especially this year. How would our gracious and kind God bring you into a new year with no good thing planned for us?

While we may not know the specifics of His plan for us, we can trust Him to bring us into them in due time. The main issue is not the “what” and “when” but how we can position ourselves to receive them, knowing that His plan is always for our good and His glory.

It is not by fighting for things, as the world prescribes. Neither do we gain them through our struggles. Remember how your fighting wore you down in 2024 and brought you nothing but disappointment and a bruised ego? Let’s not forget the lessons of the past and seek a better way forward.

You do not have to be aggressive about what God has promised you. Being rude and pugnacious about things does not cut it either. Nobody has to endure your belligerent attitude. How would you feel after stepping on everybody to get what you want? Where will your Christian witness be?

The winning disposition for the child of God is meekness—strength under control. The world may call it weakness, but it is a lesson God has taught His faithful servants in the past and keeps teaching us today. This is not a sign of weakness, but of strength under control. Moses, Samson, David, Peter, James, and John, and Paul all received their certificates from this School of Meekness before walking into their blessed positions in God’s kingdom.

Our scripture for today promises the inheritance of the earth to the meek (Psalm 37:11). This’ inheritance of the earth’ does not necessarily refer to material possessions or land, but to the blessings and promises of God’s kingdom. Jesus beatified this promise in His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:5). He set the example in humility when He emptied Himself of all His prerogatives as God and condescended to our level to save us (Philippians 2:5-11).

Recognize, then, that stepping into the ring with the world over things or issues is not the Christlike way in 2025. A disposition that will deliver your inheritance to you is to have your strength brought under control by the Holy Spirit as His fruit (Galatians 5:23). That, my friend, is meekness and your winning disposition for this year.

Pray with Me

I am a wild horse, Lord. Please let your Holy Spirit bring me under the Master’s control so I can gallop triumphantly to possess all you have for me this year. In Christ Jesus, my Lord. Amen.
