Psalm 46:10
New King James Version
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
For Encouragement and Comfort
An Akan proverb has a word for the world today:
The fool thinks it does not concern him when the rain destroys somebody’s house.
However, the flood would have swept his house away before he could count to three. Some people thought what is happening today in the West was an African thing, a system that could never happen in America. The democratic system of the West, they postulated, is so resilient that the “muscle velocity” system of governance could never happen here. Well, the theory is up for a test ride, and what a dizzying ride it is becoming.
This confidence on the system’s resilience befogged learned men and women of economics, political science, philosophy, and the arts while greedy businesspeople were busy counting their profits. Blinded by their greed, they dismissed the sideline declarations of the street-smart, risk-takers and science fiction dreamers, spiffily dressed by the fashion industry. These people paraded their intentions before the world in T.V. shows and movies with their glitter and wonder that dulled the minds of everybody. Do you remember Sir Alex Fergusson’s dismissive phrase, Our noisy neighbors? Well, tell me, who is noisy now—United or City?
The Holy Spirit asks why the nations rage and its people plot a vain thing (Psalm 2:1)? He raises the strongest warning to the enemies of the Anointed of the Father. He sings a beautiful song with captivating lyrics about the supremacy of the Son of God and His sovereign rule that demands the submission of the kings of this world. Their conspiracy against the LORD and His Anointed, seeking to overthrow His rule with their shenanigans, amuses the LORD enthroned above. To Him, they are like children building and admiring their sandcastles and thinking they have priceless assets (Psalm 2:1-4).
Christ is coming soon, and the world has convulsed in response. You know the winds before the hurricane. Flares of fear are multiplying every day, and uncertainty will rise. The sleeping, adulterous, worldly, and compromised church will not know what hit it. The comfort, however, is that the true church will shine through this darkness like a star kept by her Lord.
O, saint of God, sing through Psalm 46 and encourage your soul in Christ your Lord. God is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. He has always been and will continue to be with you. Therefore, do not fear. The powers of this world may attempt to remove the earth. They could carry the mountains into the midst of the sea, causing its waters to roar and swell. Yet, they can upturn nothing of God. Why?
There is a river that brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High.
God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it (Psa. 46:1-5).
Continue to read on, my friend, and see the vivid description of today’s events through the eyes of the Spirit of God. Experience His presence and Providential hand, moderating and orchestrating everything towards the end of redemptive history. His comfort to you is to be still and know He is God. Every nation and people will honor Jesus. The world will honor him as God and King Eternal (10).
So, brace yourself for the ride of your life, and let the simple be wise and seek the Lord while He remains ready to save. Let the pretending Christian know it is time to put off the mask and be honest for their own sake.
Pray with Me
Father, we confess our rebellion and fear amid today’s confusion and chaos. We bow in surrender to Your Majesty and rule, assured of your guidance and protection in Christ Jesus. Amen.
