Fearless!

Psalm 71:10-11

New International Version (NIV)

For my enemies speak against me … They say, “God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him.”

For Meditation

It is fascinating to ponder how our adversaries perceive us in our vulnerable moments. They may see us as helpless and abandoned by the God we have trusted and stood our ground for against every temptation. But what they cannot understand is the unwavering love of the God we serve. They are unaware of His love that never fails (Rm. 8:31-39), His faithfulness (2 Tim. 2:13), His watchful eyes upon us (Psa. 34:15; 1 Pt. 3:12), and His promise to never leave us nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5-6).

David’s enemies never considered why he could confidently walk through the darkest valley without fear. They did not know about the joy and confidence David had in the God he could call his Shepherd—the Shepherd in whom every want fled, the one who fed him on green pastures and refreshed his soul by His quiet waters. David’s enemies could not fathom his Shepherd’s guidance on righteous paths and protection through the dark valleys of this world, shielding him from all evil by His constant presence with him, disciplining and drawing him in when he strayed (Psa. 23:1-4). How could this God ever abandon him? Never!

Did God abandon Noah (Gen. 6-8)? Did He abandon Joseph in prison (41:14, 41)? How about Israel in Egypt (Exodus 3:7- 10) or at the Red Sea (14:15-30)? Did God abandon the three Hebrew boys in Nebuchadnezzar’s fiery furnace (Dan. 3:19-27), or Daniel in the Lion’s den (6:16-23)? Did He abandon His Son in the grave (Matt. 28:5-6), or the disciples, even in their persecution and death?

What, then, makes you think He will abandon you? It is laughable for your enemies to believe the Lord has forsaken you, and that they can pursue and destroy you, for your Savior and Lord, the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, will deliver you. So, do not allow the enemy to deceive you with his lie that God has forsaken you (Psa. 71:11). Trust the Lord with absolute confidence and never doubt His promises when it matters most.

Stay deeply rooted and unflinching in your faith in Christ and stand your ground through every storm in your life, regardless of what anybody thinks. The Lord, who is your protection, will strengthen you when you become vulnerable. He will make you strong and courageous in His whole armor until the victory sounds for God’s glory.

Shalom

Pray with Me

I thank you that your promises are always “Yes” in Christ, and I can say with confidence, “Amen!” You are the faithful God whom I trust through all the toils and fears of this world because you shepherd me with tender loving care. I praise you today because you deserve it. In Christ Jesus, my Lord, amen.
