John 17:20-26
New International Version (NIV)
Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
Your Blessing
Before you even existed, He prayed for you. The King of glory, the Good Shepherd who knew you before you were formed in the womb (Jer. 1:5), had already chosen you as His own from eternity past (Rom. 8:29-30). It was not your merit or anything in you that drew His attention, but His love that elected you.
He knew God’s grace would save you through faith, as the witness of the apostles reached you and the Holy Spirit regenerated your heart from a state of spiritual comatose, a condition of spiritual death and unawareness; so, Jesus took time to pray for you.
Our Savior knew the opposition and struggles, such as doubt, temptation, and persecution, you will go through after your salvation; therefore, He remembered you in His High Priestly Prayer (John 17:20-26). The Good Shepherd lifted you before His Father, that you and other believers will find unity in Him, just as He is one with the Father (20-21).
Jesus’ love for you is so profound that He longs for you to be where He is. When the time comes for Him to bring you to heaven, you will behold His glory—the glory He shared with the Father before the world began (24).
Great news for joyful praise. Why then should you walk in fear when your Great High Priest interceded for you before taking your place on the cross?
Never forget that the Lord’s High Priestly Prayer is a constant shield over you in this dark world. He continues to intercede for you from His position of authority at the right hand of the Father in Majesty (Romans 8:34).
So, sleep well every night, my friend, for heaven has opened to you in Christ, and He will shepherd you safely until glory dawns on you (Col. 3:4).
Shalom
Pray With Me.
I thank you, O Lord, for your High Priestly prayer that keeps me from falling and to live in unity with all your children as a testament to your goodness and loving kindness. I look forward to the day I will behold your glory. I ask all this in your exalted and glorious name, amen.
