Celebratory Dance

Psalm 20:4

New International Version

May he give you the desire of your heart
    and make all your plans succeed.

For Meditation

The theme for this Psalm is victory in the God of Israel, whose self-disclosed name is Yahweh. It emphasizes the significance of the relationship between the Lord and His people when they invoke His name in times of distress.

There is provision of deliverance and victory, both physically and spiritually, associated with God’s name, as He revealed to Moses when He promised deliverance for Israel from their Egyptian oppression and affliction (Exod. 3:13-17).

This theme also relates to the various names applied to God throughout biblical history by the beneficiaries of God’s gracious intervention, such as, El Shaddai—the Almighty Sufficient God; El Roi—The God who sees; Jehovah Nissi—God our Banner; Jehovah Jireh—God my Provider; Immanuel—God with us, etc.

We can recall these names in our prayers for deliverance and thanksgiving. I call such prayers a Celebratory Dance, a ceremony praising the Lord for the victory before a battle begins (cf. Phil 4:6-7).

So,

Whatever the Lord inspires your heart to desire;

Whatever He sets your mind to conceive;

Whatever the Holy Spirit directs you to put together;

Whatever expectations you have and set for yourself in the Lord;

May the Lord your Rock, Fortress, Deliverer, Strength, Shield, Horn, Salvation, Stronghold delight your heart with a celebratory dance today and give you joy, in the matchless name of Jesus.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,

    but we trust in the name of the Lord our God (Psa. 20:7).

AMEN!
