Joshua 2:9-11
New International Version
Rahab said to the spies, “I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you.”
For Encouragement
Crossing over into uncharted territory is always threatening. The uncertainties of tomorrow can be daunting, even for the bravest and best-prepared person, including the faithful and spirit-filled saint. Fear is not a factor here, though for some, it is key. The surprise the new chapter brings along causes unease, harmless as it might be.
Israel stood on the verge of crossing over the Jordan River into the Promised Land with the same feeling. Though the Lord had given assurances to Joshua, their new leader, he sent a team to spy the land, especially the first city they intended to assail. The confirmation report came back. The opposition knows Israel’s history and the mighty deeds of their God who leads them. Therefore, their hearts melt with fear, and their courage has flown with the birds (Joshua 2:9-11). When they crossed over into the Promised Land and prepared for the first attack, the Holy Spirit confirmed Rahab’s confession.
“Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the Lord had dried up the Jordan, … their hearts melted in fear, and they no longer had the courage to face the Israelites” (5:11).
You’re on the cusp of 2025 and 2026 today. While you might not admit it, the future’s unknowns could be unsettling, even with your faith in God guiding you into the new year. So, let’s hear the report on 2026.
The new year is, not will be exceedingly good. There are varying challenges to confront (Nu. 13:27-29), and the Lord brings you victory (14:7-9). The enemy and all the forces of darkness tremble because of you. They know the God who leads you and the fame of His mighty deeds on your behalf in 2025 (Joshua 2:9-11).
When you cross over, and Jericho threatens your faith, remember the Holy Spirit’s report in 5:1 and the Commander of the Lord’s army who comes to lead you into the battles (13:14). Only yield to Him in worship (Rm. 12:1-2), and let Him be God in your life. However, never forget you are entering holy ground (Josh. 5:15), so be holy (1 Pt. 1:16).
Enter 2026 in style and flourish for the glory of the Lord.
Happy New Year, everybody.
Pray with Me
Father, thank you for the blessings of 2025 and the certainty of our victory and joy in 2026. To you be glory, honor, and praise in Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
