Job 1:21
New King James Version
And he said:
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked shall I return there.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
For Encouragement
Job’s response when all the calamities fell in rapid succession on him is remarkable.
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
I can hear the Patriarch say through sanctified ears:
“I don’t understand any of these, but I know the One who gave them all, and I can trust His sovereignty. All He does is good and perfect, so though I cannot see through the haze now—and it hurts—I will trust Him.”
Sometimes, that is all we can say.
Pray with Me
Father, you are perfect in all your ways. They are beyond our comprehension and input, but that’s why you are God, and we are human. You have asked us to thank you in all circumstances, for that is your will for us. Therefore, we thank you for all we have gone through and for all we are going through now. Please give us grace to trust you through them all, though they hurt. We stand with Horatio Spafford at the point of the tragic loss of his four daughters in the middle of the ocean and say; It is well with my soul. Hallelujah!
We praise and glorify your exalted name, Jesus. Amen.
