A Call to Worship

Psalm 95:6

New International Version (NIV)

Come, let us bow down in worship,
    let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;

For meditation

What a privilege it is to be invited to join God’s people in worshipping Him (Psa. 95:1-2, 6)! Think about it this morning.

We are talking about the God of all creation—the great God who alone is God, and there is none other like Him or any we could compare to Him—the self-existent God who made all things seen and unseen. He is the Lord! He is a great God and a great King above gods (Psa. 95:3).

The object of our call to worship is the God who holds the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains in His hands. He made the sea, and His stamp of ownership is all over it. Any wonder it hears His voice and parts to let His redeemed through in safety (Exod. 14:21-23), or calms to a hush when He commands it (Mk. 4:39)? His hands formed the dry land, too, and created the vegetation, insects, and animals that inhabit it. This is the God you have been called to join in His worship this morning and every other.

It calls for singing and shouting for joy to the Rock of our salvation, accompanied by our sacrifice of thanksgiving. So, let us sing psalms and hymns of praise to our exalted King Eternal, seated on His Majestic throne and surrounded by the host of heaven.

Is your heart prepared and ready to bow down in worship of Him who alone deserves it (2)? Are your knees flexible enough to kneel before the Lord your Maker in worship (6)?

The Almighty God is our God. We are the people of His pasture, the sheep He watches over and cares for (7). How can we refuse Him the worship and praise He deserves?

Obedience to His voice is your best act of worship that satisfies Him. A hardened heart, He despises. Why, then, is your heart hardened (8)? A sacrificed life is the evidence of your bent knees with hands upraised in deep worship of your Maker and Redeemer King—Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom. 12:1). Therefore, give it all to Him this morning.

Let’s enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise (Psa. 100:4). Let us shout for joy and announce to the world that “Our Lord God Almighty Reigns” (Rev. 19:6), and His goodness and “love endures forever. His faithfulness continues throughout all generations” (Psa. 100:5). AMEN!

Pray with Me

We give it all to you, our great God and Savior. You made us, and in your great love, you have redeemed us from the dominion of darkness into your glorious light, the kingdom of your Son, Jesus Christ. For who you are and what you have made us in Christ, we worship you. Receive our sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving and bless your children. In Christ alone, amen.
