Luke 13:12
New King James Version
But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.”
For Encouragement
Imagine her situation. For eighteen years, she had suffered under spiritual oppression, which left her physically disabled and bent over in pain—unable to stand straight. Where does her help come from? Such was the state of this woman on the Sabbath day when Jesus taught in her local synagogue (Lk. 13:1-17).
Glory to God; Jesus knows everyone and their unique needs. Because of her infirmity, the woman perhaps sat in an obscure place in the synagogue. She may have been afraid of being thrown out. With a racing heart, she took in every word from the Master’s lips, hoping that somehow Jesus might have mercy on her.
Oh, how many are like this woman? We see people like her everywhere, often lacking resources and becoming outcasts; their silent suffering, visible in faces few care to notice. Alone, afraid, uncertain of tomorrow, they try every hopeful event, longing for people’s kindness and a supernatural touch. In their search, many become victims of fake prophets and healers. The physical, emotional, and economic burdens weigh on them. Still, they hope for a breakthrough.
Maybe that is your situation, and it has frustrated you. Take heart, for your Savior is alive. He knows and sees you, even if you hide. His eyes are always on you, keeping you for His perfect time. Jesus has linked your healing, freedom, and breakthrough to revealing the Father’s glory and to blessing others. When He acts, He will fill your heart with joy unspeakable!
Jesus saw that poor woman among the worshippers in the Synagogue, called her to Himself, and said to her:
“Woman, you are loosed from your infirmities” (12).
The tenderness of His voice, the love it exuded, the compassion and warmth, and the grace that flowed embraced the poor woman. The Teacher reached out and touched her. Instantly, she was healed, as divine power flowed, straightening her bent back and making her whole. Glory to God!
It did not matter that her healing angered the synagogue ruler (14). Many, like him, are cold; their hypocrisy is their shame. God showed mercy and healed the poor woman. Filled with His love, she moved, danced, and praised the Lord. What else did she need?
That is all you need for the weekend, my friend—the love of God through Jesus—His mercy and grace to refresh you for another week. To receive this, look to Him who bore our pain and sicknesses on the cross (Matt. 8:17). By His wounds we are healed (1 Peter 2:24). He sees your tired soul and understands your cares and burdens. Remember, your Redeemer will not leave you to the whims of the hypocrites around. Instead, He calls you into His rest to refresh and renew.
Shalom
Pray With Me
Thank you, Lord, for not leaving me to the whims of people who cannot feel my pain and need for your healing. Thank you for your gentle and liberating touch through Jesus, my Savior and King. Amen.
