A Day of Surrender

Romans 6:13

New International Version

Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.

For Meditation

The Apostle Paul gives us a valuable reminder in Romans 6:13: not to offer any part of ourselves to sin. This reminder challenges us to rely on the Holy Spirit to help us trust God.

Instead, Paul encourages us to give ourselves to God and live in a way that honors Him by offering ourselves to God as instruments of righteousness, since Jesus has saved us from sin and brought us into His family (Rom. 6:23). Because of this, we have no reason to return to our old ways. So, before we move away from the Easter season, it is helpful to make these declarations to affirm your commitment to the Lord and to continue our journey with Him with determined devotion.

1.     I fully surrender to you, Lord Jesus, to trust you, love you, follow you, let go of worldly pleasures, and ask you always to lead my life in holiness.

2.     I ask you, Jesus, to make me your own, to help me know that the Holy Spirit is with me to embrace me with your love, power, and blessings.

3.     I ask you, Jesus Christ, to make me completely yours and to shield me from every claim of the enemy upon my life.

4.     I declare to you, Lord, that I give myself fully to you and ask you to guide me daily along life’s path till glory.

These declarations should help us remember to surrender to Jesus every day and let Him lead us as His beloved children.

I encourage you to sing the hymn “I Surrender All” by Judson W. Van de Venter during your day. Let the words guide your prayers and actions as you look for what God wants to show you through surrender.

As you take these steps of surrender, ask Christ to renew, strengthen, and change you. Pray for the Holy Spirit to give you peace and help you live boldly for God’s glory this week. Choose today to start this journey.

Shalom
