Daniel 2:49
New International Version (NIV)
Moreover, at Daniel’s request the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon, while Daniel himself remained at the royal court.
For Meditation
- We often talk about Daniel’s integrity (Dan. 6:4-5) and his time in the Lion’s den (16-23); but how many have taken the time to examine his relationship with his friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego?
- Have you noticed how Daniel’s resolve to remain pure to God (Dan. 1:8) influenced the decision making of his three friends in a pagan environment (11-17)? Don’t we need friends like that in today’s wicked environment?
- Do you remember how Daniel called the three to stand with him in prayer concerning the mystery of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream (2:17-18)? Did you notice how Daniel didn’t claim glory for himself alone when God revealed the dream to him, but included his friends in his praise song after God (20-23)? Listen to Daniel: “I thank and praise you, God … you have made known to me what we asked of you, you have made known to us the dream of the king (23).” [Emphasis mine] Isn’t that wonderful?
- How about when Daniel was rewarded by Nebuchadnezzar for unraveling the mystery of his dream (46-48)? Do you see how Daniel recommended his three friends to the king for appointments (49)? I can hear Daniel saying: “Thank you king, but I didn’t do it alone. These three friends stood with me in prayer before the Lord for this revelation. They are knowledgeable and wise. Remember when you talked to us after our training (1:19-20)? They will make excellent administrators, don’t you think?” And the king may have said, “You are an honorable man, Daniel. They can take the position of administrators over the province of Babylon, while you remain in my court as chief of my wise men”. How’s that for a real friend?
- Do you have a friend as trustworthy and faithful as Daniel? Are you a trustworthy and faithful friend to someone? When you suffer together in the field, can you reap together at harvest time?
I pray the Lord to bring you a real friend like Daniel who is trustworthy and faithful.
May you also be a real friend to somebody who needs you today; and may you influence them by your integrity and dedication to God.
A real friend is the praying and selfless person in your life.
Shalom
