Psalm 71:10-11
New International Version (NIV)
For my enemies speak against me; those who wait to kill me conspire together. They say, “God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him.”
For Meditation
- Isn’t it a joke for your enemies to think that you are helpless and vulnerable with no one to rescue you from their snares?
- Do they know how protected you are in the hands of God? Do they have any idea of how unfailing God’s love is (Rm. 8:31-39)? Do they know His faithfulness (2 Tim. 2:13), His watchful eyes upon the righteous (Ps. 34:15; 1 Pt. 3:12); and His promise to never leave you nor forsake you (Heb. 13:5-6)?
- Have your enemies considered Psalm 23? Have they considered why David could confidently declare his fearless walk through the darkest valley (4)? Was it not because of his unwavering trust and absolute confidence in God as His Shepherd? Has God ever abandoned any of His flock in critical situations?
- Did God abandon Noah (Gen. 6-8)? Did He abandon Joseph in prison (41:14, 41)? How about Israel in Egypt (Ex. 3:7-10) or at the Red Sea (14:15-30), and under Joshua? Did God abandon the three Hebrew boys in Nebuchadnezzar’s fiery furnace (Dan. 3:19-27), or Daniel in the Lion’s den (6:16-23)? Did He abandon His Son in the grave (Matt. 28:5-6)?
- So, what makes your enemies think God will abandon you? And why are you scared by their words? Why have you believed their lie that God has forsaken you and that they will pursue and seize you with no one to rescue you (Ps. 71:11)?
I pray you will be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power, by putting on the whole armor of God and courageously stand your ground in the face of every opposition for the glory of God in Christ Jesus (Eph. 6:10-18).
So: May the Lord strengthen you where you’re most vulnerable; and may He cause your enemies who come against you from one direction, “flee from you in seven” (Deut. 28:7).
Shalom
