Psalm 46:10

For Meditation
“It’s a miracle,” my wife shouted from the back of the truck. Our daughter and her family were visiting from the USA, and their two children, who were used to the music from their parents’ vehicles back home, felt grandpa’s truck was too quiet and boring. Our Radio/CD player had not been functioning for the longest time. Kayla, their first girl complained at last, “There is no music in the car.” Poor grandpa! As I struggled to explain my sorry situation to the little ear, a familiar song suddenly filled the air. “Where is that sound coming from?” I said. “It’s the CD player,” they shouted spontaneously. I think my daughter and her husband were the most relieved. They had silently endured the deafening silence in the truck; and what a delight this was! Thankfully, God heard the voice of their little girl and gave her music that we all enjoyed for the rest of their stay. For, surprisingly again, the sound system went dead a few hours before they left Dakar, and has never worked since then. The helpless little children needed music, so God provided for them. Now grandpa, who has the means to take care of his sound system, is left to his responsibility. How instructive!
- Have you ever been surprised in a similar way by God?
- Isn’t He wonderful? Wasn’t your experience exhilarating?
- Didn’t it teach you something about God and how closely He walks and deals with his children in need who ask – even in mundane situations like lack of music in a truck?
- So, what’s your situation today? Is yours a lack of satisfaction on the job, a stale and dying marriage, a struggling financial situation, a boring environment in your church services, or a lingering health challenge?
- Can you trust God to surprise you? Can you be still, after you’ve prayed, and know that He is God? Are you not His little child? Can’t He exalt Himself above your situation?
I pray you realize that God loves His little children and helps those who express their weakness and helplessness. But for those whom He has equipped and are able to impact their situation, He leaves them to their responsibilities.
So: May the Lord surprise you with a miracle today for your little darling’s sake; but may you rise to your responsibility and fix your situation in your God-given strength. As He told Gideon, “Go in the strength you have … Am I not sending you” (Judges 6:14)?
