Luke 15:22

“But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
For Meditation
A father’s love! He had waited and wished his son home for a long time. Everyday, he peered over the horizon to see any shadow that could turn out to be his beloved son; but each suspected movement had brought more disappointment. Yet, he never lost hope. He knew his son would be back. He had taught him well in the scriptures. Even though the world had lured him away, it was only a matter of time, and he will return. So, the old man waited.
“Could that be him?” How could he miss his son from any crowd?
He has trekked several miles from the far away country, and it showed. The much-coveted independent life away from family had turned sour in the Prodigal son’s mouth.
The fact is, money is fleeting! As my folks from Ghana put it, “Money has wings.” It can fly so fast and so far away from a person that misery becomes their constant friend.
The father runs to meet his Prodigal son. He has never been short on compassion. He covers his face with kisses and embraces him warmly.
“Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son” (Lk. 15:21).
“Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found,” the father said (22-24).
So, the celebration began.
That’s the new life in Christ Jesus. It’s a new beginning in life for all who repent and come to God through Jesus. They are born again, reconciled to God, and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live for Him. They are a new creation, the old is gone; the new has come (Jn. 1:12-13; Titus 5:4-7; 2 Cor. 5:17-18).
- Have you experienced this new birth in Christ yet?
- Have you drifted far away from Him?
- Has life become bitter for you like it did Naomi or the Prodigal son?
- Why don’t you come back home to Jesus?
- Why don’t you come back into the Father’s loving embrace and His grace that awaits you in Jesus?
I pray you begin afresh with Jesus this year and never look back or turn away from Him. His grace is sufficient for you every time, everywhere, and in all situations. That is a promise you can trust through 2018.
Happy New Year!
