Watch That Guy

Job 2:5

New International Version (NIV)

But now stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones, and he will surely curse you to your face.

For Meditation

Consider Satan’s thinking pattern here. If causing Job to lose his wealth and children couldn’t move him to disown God, maybe an attack on his health would. So, he asked for permission to assault Job’s health. “So, Satan went from the presence of the LORD and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the top of his head” (Job 2:7).

Satan has the same plan for every believer. He tries one plan after another to see what will get us to walk away from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His bait comes in different shades and colors. He is a master tactician and disguises very well. It is only the Holy Spirit who can reveal him to us every time. As we draw closer to God and get to know Him well, we become discerning and able to distinguish God’s ways from that of the enemy. We become wiser and aware of his schemes (2 Cor. 2:11).

  1. So, are you keeping short accounts with the Lord?
  2. Have you immersed yourself in His word?
  3. Are you walking in humility before God?
  4. Have you taken the counsel of the writer of Hebrews to fix your eyes on Jesus through your sufferings (Heb. 12:2)?
  5. Are you sober and vigilant against the incursions of the devil, who seeks to humiliate you with every possible opportunity you give him (1 Pt. 5:8)?

I pray you will “Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings” (9).

So, watch that guy – Satan – and stand in the authority of the believer in Christ Jesus (Lk. 10:19) to dismantle his plans concerning you, for the Father’s glory.

Shalom
