Psalm 16:8
New International Version (NIV)
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
For meditation
The little boy screams in the middle of the night, as the storm breaks and the winds whistle fiercely through the trees behind his upstairs room. The house is shaking and threatening to collapse. Struggling for his dad’s hand in the shadows, he screams:
“Daddy, where are you?”
“I am here, son.”
“Where, dad? I can’t see you.”
“Right here by your side, David. Don’t you remember our conversation before you slept – that daddy will be by your side always?”
“Yes dad, I remember, but I can’t see you.”
“I know son, but I am right here by your side. Now, stretch forth your hand and put it in mine. Do you see me now?”
“Yes, dad. I see you. Boy! I am so glad you are here, dad! I feel secure now.
With his right hand clenched as if holding daddy’s hand, a smile on his face, and with a chuckle, little David drifted into a deep sleep.
And it was a dream.
How comforting it is to have the assurance of the ever presence of our God. You too can reach out for the hand of your Savior and Lord Jesus in the storms of your life. His promise to never leave you nor forsake you is surer than that of the little boy’s father (Heb. 13:5).
So, as the eighteenth verse of Psalm sixteen says, “I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken,” fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith. He is right by your side through your storms.
Shalom
