Exodus 14:13
New International Version (NIV)
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.
For Meditation
O, the giants in our lives! How miserable they make our lives; how tormenting their presence! But isn’t it so, because we view them through our own eyes rather than those of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ? Miserable people of little faith (Mk. 4:40)!
Who delivered you from the bondage of slavery to sin? Who led you out of Egypt by His mighty hand (Exod. 13:14)? Who caused the Egyptians to be favorably disposed to you to the extent that you plundered them (12:36)? Who has led you since then, if Christ is indeed, your Savior and Lord?
So, why do you allow your current circumstance to terrorize you? Is it not because you have shifted your focus far away from your Savior? Do you see why the least threat strikes fear in you?
Can you look through your tears and see the God who made everything around you and maintains the final authority over them? Can you tune every voice out and hear the comforting voice of your Lord speaking to you now?
“Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again” (Exod. 14:13).
Did you hear that? So, who has become your Egyptian today? What did the Lord do to them yesterday at Calvary? Where did death – the weapon they used to whip you into submission –flee to when on the third day, your Savior rose in victory (Lk. 24:2-5)?
Why, then, like Elijah, are you running away from the threat of that defeated foe (1 Kings 19:3)? Or, don’t you see him in that threatening situation you face today?
But, your Great High Priest is good, compassionate and gracious. He knows your frame and can empathize with your weakness (Heb. 4:15). So, again, He tells you: “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.”
Listen carefully, dear friend. God says, today, not tomorrow. And He gives you this assurance: “For the … (Fill in with your problem) you see today you will never see again.” Why? Because “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still” (Exod. 14:14) and know that He is God (Ps. 46:10).
But, tomorrow you may say to me, “My situation is the same, Pastor. Yesterday you said, God said, ‘Today,’ but nothing happened.” Well, let me ask you something: What do you call this day? Is it not still “today?” When will you remember that God deals with “today,” not yesterday or tomorrow. So, know that His promise still holds – today.
Faith, my friend! Faith is the victory. You don’t define today. God does. Just trust Him and stand firm. Your deliverance will surely come. And if doubt creeps in, have a conversation with Jesus. Let Him take you to the Red Sea crossing again and see what happened to the Egyptians. Visit the tomb where they laid Him and let that lift your faith to firmer grounds in Christ Jesus, your Lord.
Shalom
