Psalm 71:10-11
New International Version (NIV)
For my enemies speak against me … They say, “God has forsaken him; pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him.”
For Meditation
It’s interesting to realize what our enemies think about us in our vulnerable moments. In their minds, we are helpless and abandoned by God in whom we have trusted, and for whom we have stood our grounds against every temptation.
- But, do they know the God we serve? Do they have any idea about His unfailing love (Rm. 8:31-39), faithfulness (2 Tim. 2:13), watchful eyes (Ps. 34:15; 1 Pt. 3:12), and His promise to never leave us nor forsake us (Heb. 13:5-6)?
- Did David’s enemies consider why he could confidently walk through the darkest valley with no fear? Was it not because of his unflinching trust and absolute assurance that God was His Shepherd (Ps. 23:4a)? Has God ever abandoned His people in any critical situation?
- Did God abandon Noah (Gen. 6-8)? Did He abandon Joseph in prison (41:14, 41)? How about Israel in Egypt (Ex. 3:7-10), or at the Red Sea (14:15-30)? Did God abandon the three Hebrew boys in Nebuchadnezzar’s fiery furnace (Dan. 3:19-27), or Daniel in the Lion’s den (6:16-23)? Did He abandon His Son in the grave (Matt. 28:5-6)?
- So, what makes you think He will abandon you? Why have you allowed the enemy to deceive you with his lie that, “God has forsaken [you]” (Ps. 71:11)?
- Why can’t you trust God anymore? How can you doubt His promises when it matters most?
I pray you will be unflinching in your faith in Christ and stand your ground through every storm in your life, regardless of what anybody thinks.
May the Lord strengthen you when you are most vulnerable; and may you be strong and courageous in His whole armor until the victory is manifest for God’s glory.
Shalom
