Are You A Friend?

Proverbs 27:6

New International Version (NIV)

Wounds from a friend can be trusted,
but an enemy multiplies kisses.

For Meditation

I love what Solomon says in Proverbs 27:6, “Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.”

  1. So, let me ask you. Are you a real friend – a good and trusted friend?
  2. Can you look me straight in the eyes and rebuke me when I am wrong? Can you tell me before I make a fool of myself?
  3. Would you rather lie to me about the reality of my situation than lay it straight on me, though it hurts? Why would you conceal the truth from me?
  4. Do you think you will be protecting me by withholding the truth from me? You think it’s the best way to show your love to me? Really?
  5. How about if that leads me to a big fall as a result? Are you then going to come around to comfort me? Are you going to stick around so closely then, when you could have helped me avoid the pain and anguish I may suffer?

I pray you will be truthful to your friend in everything if you really call yourself a friend. It doesn’t matter whether the truth will hurt or make the person angry. For, it is better for your friend to receive a harsh rebuke from you now, than to wait till they stumble. You don’t know how severe and painful the fall will be.

So: May you be a friend who loves always (Prov. 17:17); and may your friendship bring you much joy because you mutually look after each other.

Shalom

  1. Pastor, your post for meditation today, remind me of what Peter said to the Lord before they arrested Him. At Peter’s reaction, Jesus replied him(Lk22:33-34). Truly Jesus is more than a friend to Peter and knowing his heart with what is ahead, He caught Peter’s attention.
Peter could’ve humble himself and admit his guilt. Unfortunately it was not the case but after disowning the Lord three time, then the Lord looked him(Lk22:54-62).
In many ways, the enemy can tempt us to lie, but we must resist him and focus in the Lord, so that we can tell the truth.
