Judges 11:2
New International Version (NIV)
Gilead’s wife also bore him sons, and when they were grown up, they drove Jephthah away. “You are not going to get any inheritance in our family,” they said, “because you are the son of another woman.”
For meditation
- Do you know that one of the loneliest situations in life is to be the “child of another woman”? Are you one of such people who do not fit in your family no matter how hard you try?
- Can you imagine how Jephthah felt the day he was matched out of his father’s house with the words of his brothers, “You are not going to get any inheritance in our family…because you are the son of another woman” (Judges 11:2)?
- How do you think Jephthah felt the day the elders of Gilead virtually knelt and begged him to become their commander and leader (4-10)? Was he not the same Jephthah they rejected? What had changed?
- Isn’t God good? Do you see how He works to lift the afflicted and shame the wicked oppressor?
- Now then, your rejection may not be that of Jephthah, but can you lift your eyes to the same God who made the difference in Jephthah’s case, and draw strength to hold on until He turns things around for you?
I pray you will remember that your life is not in any person’s hands, but the One who understands how you feel because He suffered the worst rejection by His people but is now exalted to the highest position of authority in heaven – Jesus Christ our Lord (Phil. 2:9).
Do not allow anger or bitterness to destroy everything for you (Heb. 12:15). Rather, allow the grace of God to carry you through the harshness of your rejection until your exaltation comes in Christ Jesus!
It is well!
