And they took him and threw him into the cistern. The cistern was empty; there was no water in it.

For Meditation

They meant for you to die, but, since God has not sanctioned it, it will not happen. Not only will you not die, you will not be harmed. No bone will be broken, nor will you be bruised when they throw you into the cistern and leave you to die.

Joseph’s brothers wished for the well to drown him to death, but God had drained it of all its murderous water. It was dry!

Why did their plan to kill his dream fail? Because, God had not finished with him; and so, it is with you. Until his plan for your life is accomplished, your enemies can do their worst, but they will fail each time. Regardless of how difficult, humiliating, oppressive, disgraceful, tempting, cruel, and unfaithful the treatment that may come your way, God will surely keep you till He sets you in the dignified position He has planned for your life.

As Joseph kept his head high, so should you. Hold on to your faith. Don’t let integrity out of your sight and grip. Keep your hope and dream alive and see your faithful God do what He does best. He will lift you up from the slimy pit and set your feet upon the rock. He will put a new song in your mouth, a hymn of praise to your God (Ps. 40: 1-3).

But, for those who sought to kill your dream? They will learn the hard way that God never lies. He is a faithful God who does whatever He says He will do; including their humiliation before you.
