And She Clung to Her

Then they lifted up their voices and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her.

Ruth 1:14

For Meditation

Why did Ruth cling to Naomi so tightly? (Ruth 1:14). What did she see in her mother-in-law that touched her so much that she held unyieldingly to her, vowing never to let her go, but to be a part of her life till death? (16-17). Can you discern Naomi’s life testimony to her heathen daughter-in-law in this story?

Do you know that when you touch somebody’s life with your life, you bless yourself? Naomi touched the life of Ruth, and through her, Naomi was blessed. She regained a place of recognition among her people, and eventually gained a place in the lineage of the Messiah (Matt. 1:5-6). Her grandson, Obed, became to her, “a restorer of life and the nourisher of [her] old age” (4:15). What a blessing!

So, what is your testimony to those around you? What is the impact of your life on them? Can you say that you’ve been blessed because you have selflessly touched somebody’s life? Wouldn’t that be great?

So, because you have positively touched somebody’s life, may God grant you a restorer of life and the nourisher of your old age through Christ Jesus, our Lord. Amen!

Shalom.
