And the close relative said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I ruin my own inheritance. You redeem my right of redemption for yourself, for I cannot redeem it.“
Ruth 4:6
For Meditation
It was the appointment of his life.
Yes, he was a good family man and cared deeply for the sanctity of his estate. But this offer was different. This was a unique opportunity to share in the earthly ancestry of Jesus. Regrettably, the kinsman-redeemer missed it.
Of course, he wanted the land, but no; not what came with it – Ruth, Mahlon’s Moabite wife (Ruth 4:3-8). The kinsman-redeemer guarded his earthly possession with his heart and lost on the heavenly deal to participate in God’s redemption plan.
We miss divine opportunities when we make decisions with selfish ambition. It is only when we consider the interest of others in our decisions that we can see the opportunities God offers us every day.
So, may you be a little sensitive spiritually about the daily happenings around you; and may you see beyond yourself so that you can see what God wants to do in your life!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, please give me spiritual eyes to see, and ears to hear you in the ordinary things of life. May I never miss my divine appointment with you in anything that comes my way. Give me a sacrificed spirit to love others enough to care for their interest in my transactions. Help me to let go of every worldly treasure that will jeopardize my relationship with you, in Christ Jesus my Lord, amen.
This make me think of the story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts5.
It is true that their decision was loyal, but the motive was wrong.
They saw the apostles were in need, but they(Ananias&Sapphira)couldn’t stand the gap of deciving and chieting. That’s why they had to pay for it.
So true pastor,thank you.
