It is harmful to consider yourself as the only person who is suffering through trials.
Hebrews 12:3
For Meditation
Why do you think you’re the only person who is suffering through trials? Why such discouraging thoughts? Are you not emotionally stressing yourself?
Countless number of people have gone through similar or worse situations, and many more are struggling through their painful moments. Their examples can comfort and encourage you in your lonely hours.
However, the best example of a person who endured suffering is Our Lord Jesus Christ. He suffered through every kind of trial and temptation but did not sin. Neither did He give in to His suffering or pain. The writer of Hebrews reminds us to look to Him for courage and strength to carry us along. But how can we look to Him?
We must consider His total life – His prayer life, His perspective on situations, His reaction to His accusers, His compassion and concern for the poor and suffering, and His care for their predicament. The writer enjoins us to consider His love for the Father, and His dedication to His work on earth. He waits to usher you into His secret place where strength and courage dwell.
David knew this secret very well. It helped him to navigate through the many trials and dangers he faced throughout his life. His testimonies fill the book of Psalms, and many have found comfort in them and discovered the presence of God in their crucibles. Filled with joy in their hearts, they have praised God after the wind of adversity passed. You too can find Him, if you look for Him who endured and prevailed.
