Tamar put ashes on her head and tore the ornate robe she was wearing. She put her hands on her head and went away, weeping aloud as she went .
2 Sam. 13:19
Old Job was right when he protested to God in his anguish. “The groans of the dying rise from the city, and the souls of the wounded cry out for help” (Job 24:12). The groans of wounded Tamar rose from Jerusalem, and her soul cried out for help for the rest of her life. A single rush of unrestrained sensual desire through Amnon, her brother, driven by the wicked plan of their cousin, Jonadab, pierced Tamar’s heart and wounded her soul for life, leaving in its wake, a huge scar of painful memory.
The Bible informs us about the tragic consequences of this story (2 Sam. 13:23-18:33). Unfortunately, many of such cruel and wicked stories are told in silence and whispers around the world today. The groans of millions of men and women, young and old, are hushed in their misery by oppressive cultures, compromised sex trafficking, weak institutions of nations, and the treachery of wicked people who stop at nothing but to make money off their backs at all cost. From across Africa to the Americas, and over the Islands to Asia, and all over Europe, vulnerable women are trafficked and sold into sex slavery and sweat factories. Young men are lured out of their countries to sell themselves into slavery on farms and in underpaid and dangerous construction works.
The arrows of the heartless world system are sharp and deadly, and their wounds, utterly painful and incurable. Yet, the cry of these poor victims is deafened by the fast, dizzying, and dazzling life of the metropolis. They retire and hide in their corners in the day, and return in the night into the dark alleys, where they have no control over their affairs. They weep. They moan. They groan. And somewhere in the dark recesses of their hearts, a voice languishes that tells them they are dead. Yet they live, and their silent groans grow louder in a world that has lost its bearing and does not care.
But there is good news! For in love, God has sent His Only Son to our sick and dying world to heal and to restore. Jesus came into this world on a divine mission “to proclaim good news to the poor … freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Lk. 4:18-19). As Chuck Swindoll rightly puts it, “Tucked away in a quiet corner of every life are wounds and scars. If they were not there, we would need no Physician. Nor would we need one another.”
Jesus is the Physician. Like the family doctor of old, He still makes personal calls around the cities, towns, and villages of the world. He has the Balm of Gilead in His hands to soothe the pain and heal the wounds of the afflicted. To everyone who hears His voice and opens the door of their heart to Him, Jesus will come in to heal and to restore the dignity they may have lost (Rev. 3:20).
I was a Tamar once, but now I am healed by the grace of God through faith in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-9). And now, I present my Physician to you – Dr. Jesus. Please call Him on these personal numbers in the Bible NOW, and He will make a private or public visit to your heart, wherever you are.
