This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name: ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

This is not an invitation to ask God for your next deal as a businessperson or to ask Him to show you who your spouse will be. It is not the time to call to God to destroy your enemies either. It is a divine invitation to ask God to reveal the most incredible things He is about to do in the world that has already begun.

God is up to something beyond our human imagination. They are so incredible that He establishes it on the certainty and power of His eternal name – Yahweh. He is the Created of the earth, and He maintains authority over it (Jer. 33:2).

The world is sleeping while the forces of evil are disparaging every human concept and comfort. What we have known before can no more be taken for granted. Everything is falling apart, and we cannot predict tomorrow.

But the people of God must not be sleeping. God’s people must be like the men of Issachar who “understood the signs of the times and knew the best course for Israel to take” (1 Chron. 12:32).

So, how can we know?

The scripture today shows how. Babylon has laid siege against Jerusalem. God has withdrawn His hand from His people and given them up for exile. However, the people are doing everything to hold back the destruction and captivity God has decreed. They are not listening to Jeremiah, God’s appointed prophet for the time. They have arrested and imprisoned him for speaking the truth. It is in this context that God speaks to Jeremiah. God promises to reveal “great and unsearchable things” to him (Jer. 33:3). What God is going to do is beyond human comprehension. Only the Holy Spirit can reveal it. (c.f. Matt. 16:17).

We are in similar times today. COVID-19 must prick our curiosity. Believers must call to God for answers to some hard questions about the state of the world and what He is doing, for it will destroy science and human reason. Do not be dulled by current news coming from all kinds of sources today.

Get it directly from your Father in heaven through serious communion in prayer as Daniel did (Dan. 9:3). God promises to answer and show you unsearchable things you do not know. But be ready for a drastic life change.
