Shake, Sprinkle, and Shine!

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot … You are the light of the world … let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:13-16

For Meditation

Tasteless life—

bland,

dreading the next minute,

fearful of,

what to expect.

Will it be like yesterday

doubt, suspicion, confusion,

all around?

Is it going to be as drab—

as always has been,

needing some flavor,

your salt,

to shake and sprinkle-

to sprinkle

and make tasty,

by you,

the salt of the earth.

Grace received,

grace to share,

from heaven’s treasury,

to lavish on the trusting,

of Him,

the Anointed One—Jesus,

Salvation to give.

Purpose, where were you,

before today?

Meaning, where—

your hiding place,

Out goes the routine—

of boring,

monotonous days.

On its heels,

dejection flees,

when sheltered in the name,

above every name –

the name of Jesus,

the name,

in which I can live,

and face tomorrow.

In Him, the unknown,

threatens no more,

the future, now secure.

in that beautiful name,

the hope of glory.

But why so dark the alley today—

why shadowy the corners?

Is not Jesus—

the light of the world,

to light those corners,

through you—

a people to bless.

So where is the light in you—

His counsel to give,

to make right the wrong,

immorality to void,

value systems to interrogate,

blemishes to wax off,

misplaced priorities to set right

in the light

that gives life.

So shake, sprinkle, and shine!

His light in you,

set on a table,

make visible to all,

directing the lost,

in your neighborhood,

a flavor and life to preserve,

for the glory of God,

in Christ Jesus.

Amen!
