Matthew 8:2
New International Version (NIV)
A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
For meditation
“Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean,” the man with leprosy went on his knees and asked Jesus (Matthew 8:2).
Jesus, willing? Really?
That was why He came from His heavenly throne to die the cruel death on the cross (Philippians 2:5-9)—that by His stripes, He will heal us (Isaiah 53:5). So why would He not be willing when we come to Him with our burdens? He is loving, compassionate, and gracious. So, yes, Jesus is willing!
He reached out and touched the man and healed him (Matthew 8:3). Isn’t that comforting? Is He not willing and ready to do the same for us?
The notable thing is that the man with leprosy recognized the power of Jesus to heal him. His faith brought him to Jesus, and his declaration touched the heart of the Lord. That is what you need—recognition and trust.
